What is Gitcoin?
Connect with the community developing protocols that help communities fund their shared needs.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to empower communities to fund their shared needs. This purpose guides our work as both an impact and protocol DAO. We are focused on building and funding tools that support community-driven shared resources.
How we support our purpose
Gitcoin is a community first, and our software products are a double-sided market that connects digital creatives to the people who want to fund their work. As of April 2023, our grants program has distributed over $50M of funding.
The DAO that governs Gitcoin
In order to make sure that Gitcoin is serving its mission and community first, Gitcoin is governed by the community. In May 2021, GTC was released. GTC is a governance token with no economic value that governs Gitcoin Grants + GitcoinDAO.
There are three important concepts to know to understand how to interact with GitcoinDAO.
Most of the action happens on Discord, gov.gitcoin.co, or Twitter
Stewards are ultimately responsible for governing GitcoinDAO.
Workstreams are the primary mechanism through which work is organized in the DAO.
DAO Workstreams
Gitcoin Product Collective is the DAO's product development team and Moonshot Collective was the DAO's rapid prototyping workstream. They have both merged into a single Workstream within the DAO.
Public Goods is focused on our mission of funding public goods.
Fraud Detection & Defense is in charge of preventing fraud on Gitcoin Grants.
Memes, Merch, & Marketing is the DAO marketing division.
DAO Ops handles DAO operations.
DAOβs Quarterly Cadence
Gitcoin operates in a quarterly cadence. Every quarter, the Gitcoin ecosystem revolves around a quarterly stacked event of a Gitcoin Grants Round. Typically a quarter looks like this:
Plan for the quarterly stacked event
Execute the quarterly stacked event
Learn from the quarterly stacked event
Repeat
The next quarterly event is a the Gitcoin Grants Beta Round, planned for April 25th - May 9th, 2023.

Gitcoin gave me the first break into Ethereum and the crypto space. It helped me find bounties that I could work on and get paid in crypto. After my first ever bounty I got paid a lot and I felt euphoric. - Sebastian TF

People ask me all the time how I got into Solidity and NFT dev. The answer is @gitcoin! Beginning of the year I just started doing bounties for a bunch of different projects (@synthetix_io @akashnet_ @SovrynBTC etc) and found the NFT ones were my fave. Such a good way to learn! - sarasioux.eth
